In Otavalo, Ecuador, the Ali Shungu Mountaintop Lodge

Can we stay one night?

At this time we have a two night minimum at the Ali Shungu Lodge. Really, what is the point of showing up late in the afternoon and leaving early the next morning?!

What do we do for food?

The Ali Shungu Mountaintop Lodge Restaurant offers an excellent selection of gourmet vegetarian dishes and many choices of quality meats. Do you have a special diet? We'll do our best to accommodate your needs. The cost per night at the Lodge includes a hearty full breakfast and a full three course dinner. If you wish to stay all day here at the Lodge, let us know and we'll be glad to prepare a lunch for you. And, of course, each guesthouse has a small kitchen for preparing drinks, snacks etc.

What kind of clothing do we need?

Think in terms of layers when traveling anywhere in the Sierra of Ecuador. For the Lodge, here on top of our mountain, bring a sweater just in case it gets chilly and good walking shoes or boots.

I get cold easily. Will I be cold at night in the guesthouse?

The guesthouses are well insulated and retain the heat provided by the sun very well. Our watchman can light the wood stove if a mountain chill moves in. The wood stoves keep the temperature inside crispy!

Will our kids be bored?

We have dogs, cats, llamas, sheep and horses, all glad to receive attention. There are plenty of trails and we have board games in each guesthouse. There are plenty of kids in the village that would love to play with a "gringito/a"!

I need access to the internet. What will I do?

Connect your laptop or iphone to our Mountaintop Lodge high speed wi-fi connection. We have a laptop in the reception of the Lodge so guests will not feel compelled to go into town only for checking e-mail.
