In Otavalo, Ecuador, the Ali Shungu Mountaintop Lodge

I get cold easily. Will I be cold at night in the guesthouse?

The guesthouses are well insulated and retain the heat provided by the sun very well. Our watchman can light the wood stove if a mountain chill moves in. The wood stoves keep the temperature inside crispy!

Will our kids be bored?

We have dogs, cats, llamas, sheep and horses, all glad to receive attention. There are plenty of trails and we have board games in each guesthouse. There are plenty of kids in the village that would love to play with a "gringito/a"!

I need access to the internet. What will I do?

Connect your laptop or iphone to our Mountaintop Lodge high speed wi-fi connection. We have a laptop in the reception of the Lodge so guests will not feel compelled to go into town only for checking e-mail.

How will I find my way to the Lodge from Otavalo?

Visits to the Lodge are for guests only and only by prearranged reservation. Truly, though very close to Otavalo, the Lodge is a bit out of the way. We'll send you a map or a taxi to bring you up!

Can you help us make plans to see the area?

Absolutely! Each guest receives a map and a list of things to do in the area. If you do not have a vehicle we can send you out for a taxi tour for $10. an hour. One can cover a lot of territory in 3 or 4 hours. There are also some excellent walks. We'll be glad to send you out in the right direction.

What if I get lost?

Well, yes, it is possible, but not likely! All roads eventually lead back to Otavalo! Sooner or later the inevitable country bus will pass by and take you to familiar territory.

Should I bring a camera?

Absolutely! You will regret it forever if you do not! Film and Batteries of all varieties are available in Otavalo! Just always keep an eye on your camera, do not put it down in public places for the possibility that you may forget it!
